Tips for Selecting the Perfect Kiwi
Selecting a kiwi is simple! Just keep these tips in mind.
- The kiwi should be full and plump
- Its skin should be smooth, without wrinkles
Kiwis are most available in the winter and spring seasons. They can be stored at room temperature for several days. If you keep them in the refrigerator, they can stay fresh for up to a month.
How to Cut a Kiwi
Method 1: Star Cut
For fancy fruit salads or dessert displays, cut your kiwi into a fun star shape.
- Lay the kiwi on a cutting board. Using a knife, cut both ends off of the kiwi.
- Insert the point of your knife into the skin of the kiwi, and begin to make diagonal slices.
- Do this around the entire kiwi, then pull the slices apart to separate.
Method 2: Slice and Spoon
For quick and convenient snacking, the slice and spoon method is best.
- Lay the kiwi on a cutting board. Using a knife, cut both ends off of the kiwi.
- Slice the kiwi in half down the middle.
- Slide a spoon underneath the skin of one half, then rotate it to remove the skin entirely.
- Stand the skinless kiwi on the cutting board flat side down, then make two vertical cuts.
